Virtual Dedicated Hosting with AWS - Some notions answered

Dedicated Hosting with AWS - Some concepts responded

One of our potential customers to read our post on Cloud Computing and returned to us with some questions about Virtual Dedicated Hosting (yes, a new term for Cloud Computing, referring only to the hosting server). With their permission I am reproducing some questions as below with the hope that the same questions will help alleviate indecision of our other potential customers:

Meaning # 1 error: EC2 lack of persistent storage. You can create a customized virtual machine image running on EC2, but any data or changes since the image is lost when he began terminates.Termination may be caused by a stop or a software failure at any center data. Although these failures are rare, the possibility of data loss on EC2 made it practically impossible to hosting the service. The most common applications include image processing large-scale searches of massive databases of DNA sequences and other computationally intensive tasks that only needed to be fed to the initial data and to produce some result.

Solution: EC2 provides us unsealed by the persistent Elastic Block Store or EBS. With EBS you can create a storage block level and attach to any EC2 instance. The EBS persists independent of the life of an EC2 instance. In addition, you can create a volume snapshot of an EBS block for a point in time backup is performed to S3. So no matter what happens to your body, EBS will ensure that the data on your body is still persisted.

Incorrect Meaning # 2: There is at least as expensive as the dedicated server

Solution: AWS provides only arenas that if it is taken for the time period of 1 year may result in up to 33% cost reduction. If you can predict the need for 3 years then you can save up to 50% on OPEX.

Incorrect Meaning # 3: The server obtains a new IP address each time it restarts

Solution: First, the restart of a body does not end (EC2-reboot-if the call is for geeks).

So, the question can be reformulated as "If an authority receives terminated, he will get a new IP address and open a Pandora's box of remapping in the DNS, DNS propogation al. Al"
Yes, for the purpose of providing forums AWS Elastic IP address, apply for EC2. With this utility, you can assign a static IP address for your account and map the IP to any new instance that you create. So incase of a termination of proceedings simply do start a new instance and an IP adapter that elastic body. That's it. Since the IP has already been mapped DNS you will not lose time for propogation.

Bad idea # 4: For any kind of scale dynamic system, you must Scalr or RightScale.

Solution: EC2 instances, using a combination of Amazon CloudWatch, Auto Scaling, Elastic load balancing can be set for scaling dynamic, with a little effort Progamming.
Amazon is working to make these configurable console.

Incorrect Meaning # 5: If an instance goes "poof" on us and left, the reconstruction should be fast enough.

Solution: Using images (AMI) of your case and the EBS volume for data persistence, Elastic IP, you should be able to return your body lost in virtually no time. This will be a bummer if it happens, but it can be re-built before your blood pressure soars beyond.

Let me know if you have more questions or imagine scenarios where it seems that AWS does not match the bill. I am almost certain that the tools provide ways to cope. Email me at Manish tekritisoftware.com AT.
